TORONTO

• Toronto Humane Society
  Offers vaccines, heartworm and parasite prevention, and microchipping at two clinics: 11 River St. and 632 Queen St. E. Reduced pricing is available for people on ODSP, Ontario Works, GIS or CPP Disability, and for First Nations, Inuit and Métis families. Bring proof of your benefits to each visit.

• Community Veterinary Outreach
  Free exams, vaccines, deworming and microchips for pets of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed. It's for people on social assistance or disability support who haven't seen a vet in the past year. Appointments are arranged through a case worker at a partner agency, such as Yonge Street Mission.

ONTARIO

• Farley Foundation
  Helps with non-elective care such as surgery, hospitalization and diagnostics. It's for people on GIS, ODSP, CPP Disability or Ontario Works, or with household income under $35,000. Your vet applies for you.

• Farley's Pets to Vets
  Covers a pet's first vet exam and core vaccines. It's for people who qualify for Farley funding, don't have a vet yet, and haven't received Farley help before. Apply through a local vet.

• SafePet Ontario
  Provides safekeeping and vet care for the pets of people fleeing abuse, so no one has to choose between their safety and their pet. Reach out through their website.

• OVC Health Sciences Centre
  Ontario's veterinary teaching hospital in Guelph, about an hour from Toronto. It handles specialty care, often at lower cost than private specialty hospitals. Your vet has to refer you.

• PAWS Canada
  A volunteer charity that subsidizes preventive and urgent vet care for low-income pet owners. It serves Middlesex, Brant, Hamilton and Waterloo Region, and you'll need your CRA Notice of Assessment to apply.

• 211 Ontario
  A free, confidential helpline answered by a real person 24/7, in over 150 languages. Call or text 2-1-1 to find local pet food banks, clinics and other support near you.

CANADA-WIDE

• National Pet Care Fund
  Grants toward urgent, non-elective vet care for low-income Canadians, based on Statistics Canada's low-income cut-offs. You can pre-apply before you need it, which saves time in an emergency.

• Waggle
  Free crowdfunding built for vet bills. You post your pet's story with your vet's estimate, share the link, and Waggle pays your clinic directly. The money never passes through your hands.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

• Petcard
  Financing that pays your vet in full so treatment isn't delayed, which you then repay in monthly payments. It's available across Canada and takes a few minutes to apply. Read the terms before signing.

• Your own clinic
  Ask about payment plans or a hardship fund. Clinics are most likely to offer these to regular clients, which is one more reason to stay with one vet.
